Glaucoma can damage the optic nerve gradually, often without pain or an obvious early change in vision. An eye-pressure reading alone cannot confirm or exclude glaucoma; the optic nerve, drainage angle, corneal thickness and visual field may also need assessment.

Tests used to build the full picture
The clinic combines pressure measurement with examination of the optic nerve. OCT nerve scans and visual-field testing can document structural and functional change. Repeating comparable tests over time is often more informative than relying on one result.
Long-term management
Glaucoma care aims to reduce the risk of further nerve damage. Depending on the type and stage, this may involve drops, laser treatment, surgery or continued observation. Treatment cannot restore nerve tissue already lost, which is why consistent follow-up matters.
The target pressure and review interval are individual. Do not stop prescribed glaucoma treatment without discussing it with the treating clinician.
